I saw this forever ago and got a shoot somewhat similar coming up at a military base deep in California. Video is amazing. So many ties to photography, all these same observations, but you have to mark, compose, shoot, think on, document each one. So time intensive, so detail oriented, so much B-roll, so much forethought put into what you want and how to get it. As a photographer, thinking about shooting video is both overwhelming yet deeply exciting in the ways you can tremendously layer an experience in such a short amount of time. In many ways, video is a much more tactile experience as well. And the sounds. Oh, man. Sound. This director did a fascinating job. Shinya Kimura is an eloquent, pared-down narrator. Many of his words sound like recited poetry. Just watch.
